UFPel is Pioneer in Australian Literature in Brazil

Professors Eduardo Marks de Marques (UFPel) and Anelise Reich Corseuil (UFSC) have just released the volume New Cultural Landscapes: Australian Narratives in Literature and Film, published in the journal Ilha do Desterro.

The journal, linked to the Graduate Program in English from UFSC (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), is one of the oldest and most respected academic dissemination vehicles in the field of Linguistics and Literature in English in Brazil. According to professor Marques, this is the first time in our country (and maybe in Latin America) that an academic journal is entirely dedicated to publish papers on contemporary Australian literature and cinema. Brazilian, Australian, American, and Chinese researchers can be read in this volume.

This work can help Brazilian readers become familiar with several readings of Australian films and novels, some of which known in Brazil, and learn about relevant cultural and historic issues from Australia.

Professor Marques has a PhD in Literature and Australian cultural studies from the University of Queensland, Australia, and has been developing activities to make Australian literature known in Brazil to bring both countries together. Ilha do Desterro issue number 2 can be accessed at
