Last August 17 UFPel welcomed Professor Maria Segarra Cañamares, deputy director of the undergraduate program in Building Engineering from the Escuela Politécnica de Cuenca, Spain. She talked about her perceptions regarding the prevention for safety and occupational risks in the field of construction. Cañamares presented her findings and insights concerning her home country, Spain. She was also encouraged to give her views on the similarities, differences and opportunities for interventions comparing Brazilian and Spanish realities.
A doctoral dissertation defended by a UFPel researcher proposes one possible solution to the serious problem of municipal solid waste disposal by using waste tire in the production of polymer blends (mechanical mixing of different plastics) containing high concentration of recycled material. UFPel’s University Dance Group (Grud) from the Physical Education School (ESEF) was nominated to compete in the Desterro de Dança award, an event to be held in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina, Brazil) from August 30 to September 4. Professor Antonio de Oliveira Costa, from the Center for Genomics and Plant Breeding at UFPel’s Agrononomy School, was one of three speakers at the opening of the 7th International Crop Science Congress (http://www.7icsc.com.cn/speakers.html) held in Beijing, China last August 14-19. The professor talked about the genomics of cereals, reporting work done by students from the Agronomy and Biotechnology Programs and members of his research and international collaborations group.
