UFPel’s Professors Approve International Cooperation Project with Chile
UFPel’s professors from the Graduate Programs in Biochemistry/Bioprospecting and Biotechnology have recently approved a project that is linked to the General Program of International Cooperation (PGCI). Spanish Professor Lectures at UFPel
Last August 17 UFPel welcomed Professor Maria Segarra Cañamares, deputy director of the undergraduate program in Building Engineering from the Escuela Politécnica de Cuenca, Spain. She talked about her perceptions regarding the prevention for safety and occupational risks in the field of construction. Cañamares presented her findings and insights concerning her home country, Spain. She was also encouraged to give her views on the similarities, differences and opportunities for interventions comparing Brazilian and Spanish realities.

Doctoral Dissertation Proposes Solution to Dispose of Municipal Solid Waste
A doctoral dissertation defended by a UFPel researcher proposes one possible solution to the serious problem of municipal solid waste disposal by using waste tire in the production of polymer blends (mechanical mixing of different plastics) containing high concentration of recycled material. Professor Fabiula Danielli Bastos de Sousa from the undergraduate program in Materials Engineering defended her dissertation in Nancy, France, last July. “Grud” is selected for Dancing Award in Florianópolis
UFPel’s University Dance Group (Grud) from the Physical Education School (ESEF) was nominated to compete in the Desterro de Dança award, an event to be held in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina, Brazil) from August 30 to September 4. Graduate Students in Dentistry Defend Doctoral Dissertations in the Netherlands
Last July 11-12, doctoral students Jovito Skupien, Françoise Van de Sande Milk and Anelise Montagnethe defended their doctoral work in the city of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Such academic accomplishment resulted from the partnership between UFPel Graduate Program in Dentistry (PPGO) and the Dentistry Department of Radboud University Medical Center, the Netherlands. UFPel Professor is Published in “The Lancet” Journal for Study About Physical Activity
A study covering more than one million people reveals that doing at least one hour of physical activity a day, such as walking at a fast pace or cycling, can eliminate the increased risk of death associated with eight hours a day spending sitting. The data come from a new series of four articles published on July 28 in the journal The Lancet, under the leadership of UFPel’s graduate program researcher in Epidemiology Pedro Curi Hallal. UFPel’s Agronomy School Professor Lectures in an International Event in China
Professor Antonio de Oliveira Costa, from the Center for Genomics and Plant Breeding at UFPel’s Agrononomy School, was one of three speakers at the opening of the 7th International Crop Science Congress (http://www.7icsc.com.cn/speakers.html) held in Beijing, China last August 14-19. The professor talked about the genomics of cereals, reporting work done by students from the Agronomy and Biotechnology Programs and members of his research and international collaborations group.
