UFPel Participates of Mobilization Seminar for Sustainability
UFPel was one of the organizations invited to join the Mobilization Seminar organized by the Regional Center for the Development of Sustainable Goals (ODS). The meeting took place last June 7.
The entire academic community was invited to attend the event, intended to implement the Pelotas ODS Center. The establishment of a local ODS is part of the actions taken by the United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP) with the participation of social and business organizations as well as civil society.
According to Mauricio Pinto da Silva, a professor from UFPel Environmental Management Program and member of the Regional Center, the ODSs are intended to guide national policies and international cooperation activities in the next 15 years, following and updating the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Silva also stresses that the challenges from 2016 onwards refer to agendas such as poverty eradication, food security and agriculture, health, education, gender equality, inequality reduction, energy, water and sanitation, sustainable production and consumption patterns, climate change, sustainable cities, protection and sustainable use of oceans and terrestrial ecosystems, inclusive economic growth, infrastructure, and industrialization and governance.
